Is Your System Prepared for a Cyber Attack?

By Dustin Hardwick, Deputy Director

The last thing city officials expected in Huber Heights, Ohio, was to wake up to a cyber attack. But in November 2023, the city was hit with a ransomware attack that shut down its zoning, engineering, tax, finance, and utility departments. Luckily, the city’s IT teams were able to get the situation under control within a week, with minimal negative impact.

Smaller towns, like Scotland, Connecticut, aren’t always as lucky. In 2024, a total of $279,300 was stolen from the town of less than 2,000 people via an offshore cyber attack. Hackers impersonated one of the town’s contracted vendors, to which the town legitimately owed money, and used that relationship to gain access to their accounts.

If you are conducting ANY business online, your system is at risk of cyber attacks and online fraud. Cyber criminals can use your email accounts, online bank accounts, and several other avenues to release sensitive information, trick your customers, or even steal money from your accounts. Without proper coverage, your system is vulnerable to these risks.

That’s why we are excited to introduce our new standalone Cyber Liability product, as an exclusive offer to CRWA members. This policy was designed with small, rural communities in mind, offering robust protection at an affordable price. Here are some key details:

  • Premium is only $500-$650 per year
  • Provides up to $250k in Cyber Liability coverage
  • Includes Cyber Extortion, Event Management, and Security & Privacy Coverages

And the process for securing this coverage couldn’t be easier. We’ve worked extensively with our carrier to shorten the application to just 1 page. Click on the links below to see the application and informational flyer.
