We are a small but sophisticated and nimble public water and wastewater utility located along the coast in beautiful Marin County, California, only 25 miles north of San Francisco. We offer competitive salaries, benefits, and training and advancement opportunities. We are currently hiring for a regular, full-time Utility Operator II position. This position normally works under the direct supervision of the Water Supervisor and occasionally under the direct supervision of the Wastewater Supervisor. This position does not exercise any direct supervision but may serve as crew lead with other Utility Operators and/or Utility Workers.

SCOPE OF WORK
In general, the position operates and maintains the District water system, including the treatment plant, collection, storage, and distribution facilities; assists with onsite wastewater program inspections; prepares reports for regulatory agencies; and performs chemical tests for water quality.

POSITION STATUS
This position is non-exempt and is, therefore, eligible for overtime. The position does serve on the District’s standby rotation and is occasionally scheduled to perform after-hours and weekend work. The position is also designated as a Disaster Service Worker and may be called upon to support the activities of the District during an emergency.

SALARY RANGE
The salary range in the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 for this position is $114,792 – $183,666 per year.

The Templeton Community Services District is recruiting for the following positions:

UTILITY OPERATOR I/II/III: The successful applicant will operate and maintain facilities, including the wastewater collection and treatment, water production, water blending/disinfection facilities, distribution, and other duties, as assigned. Applicants with Wastewater Plant operation experience are highly desirable. Salary: $4,811.94 to $7,109.43 a month ($27.76 to $41.02 per hour) DOE, plus benefits.

UTILITY WORKER I/II/III: The successful applicant will perform a wide variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the repair, maintenance, and construction of public works infrastructure and facilities and will perform other duties as assigned. Salary: $3,161.92 to $4,671.60 a month ($22.28 to $32.92 per hour), DOE, plus benefits.

Experience in:

• Preferred to have at least five years of progressively responsible management or supervisorial experience working with staff and elected officials.
• Knowledgeable in water management, treatment, distribution, and regulatory compliance.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The SUSP Technical Field Specialist will perform operations and maintenance on the water distribution system and/or water/wastewater treatment plants. Daily operations include evaluating and maintaining operations status and conducting routine sampling. The SUSP Technical Field Specialist will answer to the SUSP manager or on-site supervisor. They must also be available for on-call duty and emergency services.

Other typical duties and responsibilities will/can include:

  • Provide support to the Supervising Operator
  • Maintain logs of daily activities
  • Perform field duties related to installing, repairing, and maintaining water/wastewater systems.
  • Provide janitorial services as directed
  • Provide landscaping maintenance as required
  • Assist in road maintenance and repair
  • Repair basic equipment such as chemical feed pumps, water pumps, etc.
  • Repair water leaks on mainlines and service lines
  • Assist with flushing of sanitary system and clearing of blocked sewer lines
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles
  • Read water meters
  • Perform routine weekend checks of Facilities
  • Recognize and follow safe water conditions in all job duties performed
  • Perform other duties or special projects as directed by the supervisor
  • Occasional travel may be required
  • Performs skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Possession of a valid California Driver’s License (Class C), with a clean driving record
  • Knowledge of basic equipment and vehicle maintenance
  • Above average computer and GPS skills (working knowledge of MS Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • A positive can-do attitude, team player, and independent worker
  • Good written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • California Water Treatment Certification Grade II or higher
  • California Water Distribution Certification Grade II or higher

BENEFITS

CRWA provides competitive salaries and benefits. Retirement is paid by the employer and fully vested after 1 year of employment with the association. Our medical insurance is paid 100% for the employee and picks up 2/3 of the cost of family insurance, dental, and vision are provided and paid by the employer as well.
