Water Treatment Certification Review (Grades 1- 2)

California Rural Water Association (CRWA) offers two-day certification review classes to enhance operators’ working knowledge of water treatment. The classes include a pre-test, detailed instruction on the expected range of knowledge for water treatment operators, and practice exams. This format refreshes operators on the many aspects of water treatment systems and helps sharpen their test-taking skills.
Upon successful completion of the class, students will be able to:
1. Learner will be able to calculate square feet, cubic feet, volume, conversion of flows, pounds formula, mg/l, flow, and head.
2. The learner will be able to recognize the duties and responsibilities of a water treatment plant operator.
3. Learner will identify the difference between groundwater sources and surface sources including the chemical and physical character of both.
4. Learners will be able to recognize the various types of reservoirs and intake structures.
5. Leaner will be able to identify the two types of filtration processes coagulation and flocculation, and the four types of specific classes of filtration.
6. Leaner will successfully identify the importance of softening and stabilizing, and successfully demonstrate the ability to calculate water hardness.
7. The learner will successfully demonstrate knowledge of the principles of chlorine disinfection, including the safety requirements in handling both gas and sodium hypochlorite.
8. The learner will successfully recognize types of cathodic protection and explain the concept of galvanic corrosion.
9. The learner will successfully be able to evaluate the basic chemical treatments for normal taste & odor problems that occur in the treatment of raw water.
10. Successful recognition of normal routine plant operation duties, as well as determination or normal maintenance planning of typical water treatment facilities.
11. Successfully explain the categories of sampling and understand the required sampling procedures for water treatment plants.
12. The learner will satisfactorily pass the final exam for the course with a grade of 70%.
13. Upon successful completion of this course the learner will earn 36 SWRCB contact hours and 3.6 CEUs

SWRCB EXAMS: All exams are Computer-Based and will be scheduled by SWRCB.

  • All registrants who have registered and paid for the class will receive their certificates within two weeks of the class date.
  • Cancellations must be received by CRWA in writing five business days prior to the event to qualify for a refund.
  • Cancellations received within this time frame, will be subject to a refund less a $25 processing fee.
  • All class transfer requests must be received five business days prior to class and are subject to CRWA approval. Transfers will only be valid within the same calendar year.
