The Academy of Water Education (AWE) is the onsite training center of the California Rural Water Association. Our instructors have spent years in the field. These experienced men and women know the ins and outs of being an operator and bring that practical knowledge to the classroom. AWE onsite workshops allow participants to learn hands-on skills. Class sessions to select from:

Water Distribution Operations and Maintenance
5-day course, $900 for CRWA members, $1100 for non-members. Students may earn 36 SWRCB Water Contact Hours or 3.6 IACET Continuing Education Units, as well as 36 REHS/CEUs.  This course prepares students to take the Grade 1 or Grade 2 Water Distribution Operator exam. This class also satisfies the 36 contact hour (3-unit) specialized training requirement for the Grade2 Water Distribution Operator exam.

Water Treatment Operations and Maintenance
5-day course, $900 for CRWA members, $1100 for non-members. Students may earn 36 SWRCB Water Contact Hours or 3.6 IACET Continuing Education Units, as well as 36 REHS/CEUs. This course prepares students to take the Grade 1 or Grade 2 Water Treatment Operator exam. This class also satisfies the 36 contact hour (3-unit) specialized training requirement for the Grade 2 Water Treatment Operator exam and Grade 2 Water Distribution Operator exam.

Backflow Tester Certification
5-day course, $900 for CRWA members, $1100 for non-members. Students may earn 36 SWRCB Water Contact Hours.

This hands-on class meets SWRCB requirements for backflow tester certification.

Utility Management Certification
3-day course, $625 for CRWA members, $775 for non-members. Students will earn up to 24 SWRCB Water Contact Hours.

The Utility Management Certification course is designed to prepare the student for the National Utility Management Certification exam. This course will utilize the study manual provided and produced by NRWA’s Water University. CRWA is a state affiliate of NRWA, which is currently the largest utility organization in the country with over 31,000 utility members nationwide. This course will cover such areas as:

The class will conclude with an opportunity to take the Certification Examination on a computer based test with immediate results available upon completion. After passing, a plaque will be mailed to each attendee.
